Hi! My name is Chantéa (pronounced Shawn-tay-a). I go by Teya for short. I am a Visual Arts student, and have practiced using many different mediums for many years!

 

Growing up I learned from who I thought was the most amazing artist I knew—my older brother. I wanted to learn so bad how to create the beautiful sketches and detailed drawings that he drew, but I lacked the patience. 

 

I eventually decided that I should stick it out and let the Jedi Master take me—the young padawan under his wing. I am thankful that I had him as an inspiration to continue my studies in art. 

 

I have always thought that I needed to branch out from art. For three years I dabbled in Health Sciences, Psychology, then Geography, but always came back to my early fascination of the arts. 

 

I am now an arts major at my hometown University, and have never been as happy as I am right now. I’ve started ArtByTeya Studio, selling prints of my work and painting commissions. I am still working on selling my original pieces of art, but when the time is right I’ll let them go. 

 

My favourite medium to work with is oil paint. I love creating portraits, especially for loved ones. It took a long time for me to understand how to properly use oil mediums, how to understand the values—mixing colours, tones, proportions etc. But I would say it was worth it, because now I’m able to use this learned skill, this passion to not just make myself happy but to bring happiness to others.
